A new supporter group has been formed in the USA to promote understanding and support for the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia.
The Flying Doctor is one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations in the world. In a country of 7.69 million square km, distance has always been a problem in accessing health care. The RFDS has been providing medical services to country Australia since 1928.
The RFDS is a not-for-profit organisation that relies heavily on fundraising and donations from the community to purchase aircraft and fund much-needed medical and aeromedical equipment. The RFDS is internationally recognised as an aeromedical innovator, widely known for its ability to respond to health emergencies in remote parts of Australia. The RFDS also plays a vital role in meeting the primary health care needs for country Australia.
Last year the RFDS fleet of 71 aircraft flew the equivalent of 34 trips to the moon and back.
In the last year, the RFDS have treated 335,125 patients.
The Flying Doctor is helping someone every 2 minutes of every day.
Promoting understanding and support of the RFDS in the USA will assist the delivery of vital emergency and primary healthcare services to rural and remote Australia.
Friends of the RFDS in the USA (FRFDSUSA) will advance the mission of the Flying Doctor through advocacy, outreach and engagement in the region.
Friends of the RFDS will assist with funding the work of the RFDS and providing material benefits to the service, additionally, FRFDSUSA will enhance the exchange of knowledge, data and experience to ensure the RFDS remains a world class organization for the next 90 years and beyond.
